Offline map pack catalogue

The global map enabled native development runtime provides 249 individually optional country/territory outlines, all 16 Chilean regions as separate packs, and 20 separately identified non ISO source map units. It retains existing country subdivision, continental overview and U.S. state packs: 5,243 selectable map layers in 5,192 optional packs in total. Aner Plot is implemented in development and awaits a binary release; the older published research preview cannot run these APIs. Use the matching development runtime and notebook integration.

The worldwide subdivision guide adds 4,838 independent state, province, region and explicitly described source unit packs. Its coverage index checks all 249 geographic units, distinguishes first order and alternative source levels, and records areas without an internal tier or with an unresolved source gap. For example, region.usa.co loads only Colorado, while region.chl.rm loads only one Chilean region.

Find a place by name below, then copy and install only its matching .anermap file on the offline computer. Importing aner.plot reads no boundary data. Constructing plot.map("country.jpn", ...) materializes only Japan's outline. Constructing plot.map("chile.region.rm", ...) materializes only Metropolitana de Santiago. Neither needs world, a continental overview or another country's geometry. The immutable chart retains its selected geometry while chart references remain. Focus, extent and styling share that geometry without rereading pack files.

The country CSV, coverage JSON and reference checklist contain the complete machine readable inventory and source metadata. These small inventory downloads contain no runtime or map archive. Build matching packs from the source catalogue or obtain the files distributed with a compatible development build:

Packaging, installation and rendering use local files without automatic downloads. National outline packs contain one geographic unit, without administrative subdivisions or streets. For example, country.chl is Chile's national outline; chile is the existing 16 region administrative layer, with its documented continental clip. chile.region.rm holds just one of those administrative features. Focusing CL-RM on a complete chile chart changes its viewport while keeping all 16 already loaded regions.

Coverage and source meaning

The checklist contains every one of the 248 countries or areas in the downloaded UN M49 overview, plus Taiwan, giving 249 ISO coded geographic units. All 193 UN member states and two non member observer states are independently checked. Countries, dependencies and other territories are included: 249 is a geographic unit count. Additional non ISO source units keep separate source IDs. Neither inventory nor source geometry resolves sovereignty or current legal boundaries.

National outlines derive from all 298 Natural Earth 1:10m admin 0 map units at pinned commit ca96624a56bd078437bca8184e78163e5039ad19 (June 2, 2022). Source subunits are grouped into their ISO geographic units; the 20 non ISO units stay separate. No microstate is replaced by a fabricated marker. The source's original generalized coordinates are retained without further simplification, with documented dissolve, ring orientation and source defect handling. Territory coverage follows the geographic unit's source parts, rather than attaching every dependency to its sovereign country.

The source and reference metadata identify exact hashes and exceptions. These are display boundaries from a pinned 2022 snapshot, not a current legal boundary feed. All national outlines together contain 12,700,397 bytes (12.11 MiB) of GeoJSON; a program opens only its chosen one. The largest, Canada, contains 1,575,063 bytes and 68,193 coordinates. Geometry size in the tables means UTF-8 GeoJSON payload, excluding archive metadata and parsed memory overhead.

Packaging collections

Collections prepare independent files for distribution; they do not cause runtime loading or make their packs dependencies of one another. For example, python3 tools/package_maps.py --collection africa --output build/map-packs prepares 60 individual files, from which a user can install only the chosen country. The existing plot teaching collection stays at 23 packs. The countries collection contains 249 ISO geographic units; source-units prepares the 20 additional source units.

Continental collection membership follows the reference checklist, including dependencies as separately coded geographic units. Thus europe is a packaging collection of 51 independent full unit outlines, while plot.map("europe", ...) uses the existing 53 feature clipped European overview. They have different purposes and coverage. Transcontinental countries follow the checklist's single region assignment; the code does not duplicate their geometry among continents.

Country and territory outlines

Each row uses plot.map(pack_id, keys: List(join_key), values: List(value)). A country or territory's full source extent may span remote islands; use an explicit extent for a local comparison. Small country shapes come from the source polygons and remain subject to cartographic generalization.

Chile: one region at a time

Each regional pack reuses exactly one feature of the existing simplified continental chile layer, retaining source key and label. The continental extent excludes remote Pacific islands and Antarctic claims. These packs add no provinces, communes or streets.

The Metropolitana de Santiago pack has 3,733 bytes and 108 coordinates, compared with 240,450 bytes and 9,945 coordinates for the complete 16 region Chile layer. A separate regional pack therefore avoids reading or parsing the other 15 features. These are geometry payload counts; allocator reuse, application state and chart references determine actual process memory.

Additional non ISO source units

These 20 entries preserve Natural Earth's source identity and classification. Use the listed source.* ID and exact key rather than assuming an ISO country code. Source classifications and boundaries retain the pinned snapshot; they do not imply Aner recognition or a current status determination.

Existing administrative and overview packs

Existing named packs continue to work: world and usa overviews; south.america and europe bounded continental views; chile, argentina, bolivia, brazil, colombia, ecuador, guyana, paraguay, peru, suriname, uruguay, venezuela, mexico and canada first order administrative layers; and usa.<postal> for all 50 states plus DC. Each state pack contains separate county and place layers; loading one layer parses only that selected layer. The plotting guide documents joins and coverage.

Install usa.co for Boulder, usa.ca for the California city examples, or usa.ny, usa.hi and usa.tx for the matching city examples. These packs and national outlines remain optional and independent. Standalone GeoPosition point charts and numerical plots require no pack.
